ASIAN GARDEN
Towards a Sustainable and Healthy Future

A Vision Rooted in Culture and Community

When the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCCGT) was first envisioned in
the 1980s, its founders recognized Scarborough’s unique position — both geographically and culturally — as a future hub for newcomers and a welcoming destination for visitors. Over three decades and through two phases of development, CCCGT has evolved from a local gathering place into a dynamic center of multicultural exchange, marked by the opening of its Main Building and the state-of-the-art P.C. Ho Theatre. Now, CCCGT is responding to a new call — one of environmental and cultural stewardship — with the creation of the Asian Garden, the Centre’s Phase III expansion. This garden is not a new idea, but rather the
realization of a long-standing vision embedded in CCCGT’s founding blueprint.

In traditional Chinese thought, true peace is achieved through harmony among Heaven, Earth, and Humanity — a balance reflected in both nature and daily life. This philosophy underpins the Asian Garden’s design, which seeks to embody that harmony through an integration of natural elements, wellness, and cultural reflection. The Garden will be rooted in classical Chinese garden design, incorporating elements of Chinese aesthetics and spatial principles of flowing water, symbolic rocks, indigenous plants, framed vistas, and hand-crafted pavilions. More than a landscape, the Garden is a living narrative — its layout and structures
designed to inspire curiosity, foster learning, and promote ecological awareness
and human well-being.
